Radical feminist Gloria Steinem once described marriage as an institution that destroys relationships. “I don’t think marriage has a good name,” she wrote in 1987. “Legally speaking, it was designed for a person and a half. You become a semi-non-person when you get married.” So is Gloria a semi-non-person now that she is married? Social relationships have to evolve along with nature. For example, in Marxist theory, which is nothing more than the political side of philosophical naturalism, the family is viewed as an institution in evolutionary process that will pass away in time. Engels remarked that “human society arose out of a troupe of tree-climbing monkeys.” It should not surprise us, therefore, that biblical marriage is coming under attack. Homosexual couples are going to Vermont to “bless” their “unions” under the guise of legal respectability by civil decree.
As with the origin of the family, civil government is also a creature of the evolutionary process. The individual is of no consequence. Those with the greatest power control everything. All totalitarian regimes begin with the fallacies of naturalism and become perpetrators of unspeakable atrocities as they follow its ethical implications. Nazi Germany is a modern-day example: “It is thus necessary that the individual should finally come to realize that his own ego is of no importance in comparison with the existence of his nation; that the position of the individual ego is conditioned solely by the interests of the nation as a whole …that above all the unity of a nation’s spirit and will are worth far more than the freedom of the spirit and will of an individual.”

Left to our crooked nature, we can never fully understand what God has planned for us and His world. God has not left us without a corrective solution. He has given us a reliable reference point in the Bible so we can identify the crookedness and straighten it.
