Look, we all know the mainstream media is rabidly biased in favor of leftists. We all know they fall on their swords to protect and promote Obama and/or anything to do with the broader leftist agenda.
We also all know they are opportunists when anything close to their agenda can be exploited.
There is, therefore, no shock in their reaction to that Obama-masked rodeo clown. It is an opportunity to play the race card and the victim card one again—especially to punish the whoop-hollerin’ type of red-state rednecks that leftists hate most. After all, this kind of thing paints all red state people with the stereotype straight from the leftist narrative: dumb, ignorant, hateful, racist clowns with cow-piles for brains.
It is important to recognize two things in this charade. First is the irony that the leftist tactic is the true bigotry. The Obama-masked dummy event was a non-event (more on that in a moment). The effort, therefore, to paint simple people as hateful racists and would-be-assassins is to project a false and negative image upon individuals, and indeed an entire culture of people. The big sneak here is that the leftists are playing victim and engaging in class warfare at the same time.
Secondly, and more importantly, is the scale of this deception. Again, there’s no way we can be shocked at how the liberals pounced on this opportunity, but when all the facts have come out, the grand scope of their hypocrisy is simply staggering.
It was bad enough when we quickly learned that a rodeo clown donned a George H. W. Bush mask in 1994—and, gee, there was no media outrage then. There were no calls for investigations because of this “threat” to the president.
Then, just this morning, I saw a link to a website documenting the dozens of overt death threats made against George W. Bush which were not only never rebuked by the same media, but most never even reported, and none investigated. The extent of collection of incidents here is truly shocking.
Do you remember when John Kerry made a “joking” death-threat against Bush? It’s documented, but there was no media outrage or investigation.
Remember when Nobel Prize laureate Betty Williams said publicly on two occasions she would like to kill Bush? It’s documented, too, but I didn’t learn about it from the media.
Remember when CBS Late Show host Craig Kilborn ran a “joke” of George W. Bush’s 2000 Republican primary nomination speech with the graphic, “SNIPERS WANTED”? If you don’t, it’s probably because you never heard about it in the media.
And my favorite: remember when the comptroller for New York said that his Senator, Charles Schumer, “will put a bullet between the president’s eyes if he could get away with it.” No media furor, no NAACP outcry, no investigation.
This matter did make it a little way into the media, but certainly not far in the mainstream. There was certainly no demand for firings or bans. In fact, “Senator Schumer’s office told reporters that after Hevesi’s apology, the matter should end.”
Perhaps Schumer is still planning his supportive response on behalf of this poor Missouri rodeo clown.
I hear the Brooklyn Bridge is for sale, too.
Now again, we need not be shocked by either leftist opportunism or leftist hypocrisy in general. These are staples. But it is instructive to us to remind ourselves just how systematic and pervasive these traits are. There should never be a time when we should expect anything different.
It is even more instructive, therefore, to work for a solution to this grand problem. For there is only one reason the mainstream media keeps acting this way: it works. It takes an enormous amount of money, time, training, and organization to do what they do. There is no way they would continue doing it if it did not have the intended effect. The moment the effects fail, so will the tactics.
To that end, let me make a couple of comments. First, the Missouri State Fair should be ashamed of itself for reacting to the liberal outcry in the way it did. The clown should not have been fired, let alone banned, and even the quickly falling-over-themselves apology to appease the media furor was wrong. It showed nothing but cowardice and fear of the mainstream media.
I am not sure of the political makeup of the State Fair officials or of the officials who pressured them from the outside. It may be that a majority were liberals, and thus the reaction would be somewhat understandable. It would, in that case, be part of the opportunism. But if there is a single conservative official anywhere in that group, they should have been the loudest, and should have resigned in protest if necessary.
Here was their shining moment to buck the mainstream media and all the leftist forces we all know are rabidly biased. Here was their moment to trample leftist hats in the dirt, charge them out of the arena, and shut the gate—and cheer loudly after doing so!
Instead, the capitulation before the media sends a message loud and clear of just who is in control. It shows just the opposite of the courage, conviction, and values that every red voter in that red state desires to be shown. It justifies and empowers the leftist hypocrisy in the media. It tells the media: “you can keep getting away with it; we will comply with the leftist agenda when scolded by leftists.”
In short, this shows very clearly that the liberal media is the raging bull in the ring, and the conservatives are the clowns running in scared scatters.
Secondly, conservatives supporting rodeos should be ashamed that the event is at least in part funded by about half a million dollars in tax-funded subsidies. What, do conservatives decry food stamps only to cheer cowboy welfare?
Let’s be consistent here—that is, let’s not be hypocrites ourselves. Taxpayers should not be on the hook (or hoof) for other people’s entertainment purposes. If the rodeo can’t pay for itself by itself, it shouldn’t be going on, and conservatives should not be supporting it. And any conservative who argues otherwise legitimizes in principle the redistribution of wealth, i.e. socialism. They therefore legitimize the same agenda being pushed by the bulls in the mainstream media.
And that’s not worth listening to, let alone legitimizing, not even for eight seconds.
As long as we do keep tolerating our own socialistic favorites, we’ll have little moral choice but cower before the leftists mainstream media, too. We’ll keep proving, in the long run, that the leftists were the bulls, and we, all along, were the clowns.
