Last Friday I wrote an article about a local church sign, which was guaranteed to keep any man from ever darkening the church door. (See Wonderful Wednesdays)
Well, I have another bad report about a church sign I saw last night. It read:
Back to School
Praying 4 You
I’m not sure whether to laugh or cry. Is this church "praying 4 you" because the quality of education in government schools continues to decline despite the money that taxpayers keep pumping into it? Is this church "praying 4 you" because they hope the students don’t engage in premarital sex or get hooked on Methamphetamines? Is this church "praying 4 you" because they hope the Teen Sunday School class and Youth Group will help their child’s fragile faith to survive hundreds of hours of atheistic, humanistic, and Darwinian indoctrination—all in the name of "religious neutrality"?
T.C. Pinckney, Brig. General USAF (ret) and Second Vice President of the Southern Baptist Convention writes,
We are losing our children. Research indicates that 70%of teens who are involved in a church youth group will stop attending church within two years of their high school graduation. Think about that statement. It addresses only teenagers who attend church and participate in the youth group. What does that suggest about those teens who may attend church but do not take Part 1n the youth group, or who do not go to church at all?
In a talk at Southwestern Seminary Josh McDowell noted that less than 1/3 of today’s youth attend church. If he is right and 67% do not go to church and then we lose 70% of those who do, that means that within two years of finishing high school only 10% of young Americans will attend church.
We are losing our youth. Why is this happening? … I believe the evidence clearly indicates that the primary reasons are, first, our failure as Christian parents and churches and, second, the intentional, persistent, and highly effective effort by anti-theists to use public schools to lead children away from their parents and from the church.
The few remaining vestiges of Christianity are being systematically stripped from State schools on a daily basis. In fact, I just saw Michael Newdow on Fox News yesterday calling for the name of God to be taken out of the Texas Pledge of Allegiance. The pledge reads,
Honor the Texas flag;
I pledge allegiance to thee, Texas,
one state under God, one and indivisible.
Michael Newdow and other secularists understand education better than most Christians. That’s one reason why Gary DeMar wrote his book, Whoever Controls the Schools Rules the World. With each passing year that Christian families send their children to the atheistic state for training, we lose ground to the enemy. It’s no wonder that the religious freedoms our forefathers fought and died for are slipping through our fingers.
It’s time for the church to wake up and realize that selling our children to the State is disobedience to God’s mandate for the successful transmission of our Faith to future generations. This mandate is given to us clearly in Deuteronomy 6:6-7 and Ephesians 6:4…
"And these words which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart. And thou shalt rehearse them continually unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou tarriest in thine house, and as thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up:" (Deut. 6:6-7)
"And ye, fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the instruction and information of the Lord." (Ephesians 6:4)
If I believed in church sign theology, I would post the following words for all to see:
