With the best-seller status of books supporting atheism and attacking religion in the news, it’s remarkable to see so much talk about religion by the president and liberals in general. Can you identify who said this?: “Science is a gift of God to all of us, and science has taken us to a place that is biblical in its power to cure.” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said this in favor of Senate Bill 5, the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act of 2007. I thought religion was an impediment to scientific discovery?

In the Time magazine article “How the Democrats Got Religion,” Nancy Gibbs and Michael Duffy state: “The Democrats are so fired up, you could call them the new Moral Majority.” Is a “moral majority” a good thing now that Democrats are pushing for their version of morality? What happened to the often heard argument that you can’t impose your morality on other people? Where are the cries for separating church and state? I thought Jesus didn’t get mixed up in politics. Of course he does when the cause seems to support some liberal cause.

You just knew that Liberals were going to pull the morality card in the healthcare debate. Sure enough, Mark Halperin, editor-at-large and senior political analyst for Time magazine told Lou Dobbs, “We’re the only industrialized democracy that doesn’t cover every citizen” and “that is immoral.” All of a sudden imposing “morality” is a good thing. Well, what do you know, all that screaming by the Left that Christians were outside the boundaries of good secular government no longer seems to apply. What Mr. Halperin doesn’t seem to understand, in an evolutionary world, a world that I suspect he would defend with the last drop of ink used to print Time magazine, healthcare is anti-Darwinian. It’s survival of the fittest. Can you imagine how much money we could save if the Leftist ethicists really followed Darwin? Why are we spending any money to keep the frail and sickly alive? We should be strengthening the gene pool. Oh, wait, that was one of the provisions in the massive bill until it was pulled.

But let’s give them the benefit of the doubt on this one. They really can’t be consistent Darwinists, at least not yet. There are too many people who still believe in God, fools that they are, so the Left is using healthcare to consolidate power. I mean, with the power of life and death in your hands, what’s left to control and conquer? You’ve got just about everything!

The American Vision on Facebook

Mr. Halperin appeals to all the other industrialized democracies. It’s a shame that America is not like them. This reminds me of the people in Israel who wanted a king to judge them “like all the nations” (1 Sam. 8:5). Where has this guy been? Critics of government-run healthcare have been pointing out the problems with these government programs, from Canada to Great Britain. A recent article reports that 45,000 healthcare workers in Great Britain call in sick each day. If GB has such a great healthcare system, then why are so many healthcare workers sick? Of course, they could be feigning illness because they are depressed having to work for a deteriorating healthcare system. They see their fate every day in the sullen eyes of the people who finally get care. That will be them in 20 years, if there is a healthcare system and England doesn’t go Muslim. Their definition of Motivation goes like this: “It’s not that I’m lazy, it’s that I just don’t care.”

Then there’s the issue of wealthy confiscation to pay for the massive program. Now there’s a moral issue, or doesn’t this one count? In Halperin’s mind, any and all Leftist causes justify wealth transfer. It’s a commandment: “It’s not stealing if the government does it.”
