I don’t owe anyone anything except what I’ve contracted to pay. I’ve never owned a slave. I’ve never denied a black person a job. Who are these Democrats to demand reparations from me?
Trillions of dollars have been paid out to poor people for nearly 60 years. It’s only made many of them poorer and slaves to the State.
They live on Uncle Sam’s Plantation. Democrats and Republicans are guilty of developing, promoting, and voting for these programs. If anyone is due reparations, it’s the taxpayers. I want my money back – with interest!
Charlie Rangel harangued about social and economic injustice and calling for reparations before he left office in 2017:
Some people may talk about payment for restitution for past crimes committed against human beings, but that restitution could be the ability to say that we’re going to make certain that people of color in this country would be able to have access to the same type of education, live where they want to live, compete against anybody for the job, and not feeling that they’re inferior because people have been taught that just because they have a different complexion that they are superior.
The hearings in Washington being held by Democrats are an extension of Rangel’s wrangling about reparations. One black man didn’t want any part of it from the party of slavery:
NFL legend and Super Bowl Champion Burgess Owens, does not agree with the Democrats about much. However, he does agree with them about reparations, except he believes the Democrats should be the only ones who have to pay them.
During stirring testimony in front of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Reparations, Owens blasted the Democratic Party “for all the misery” they’ve brought to blacks; citing everything from the party’s support of slavery, the KKK, Jim Crow laws, and abortion.
Who will pay these reparations? The government? This may fool low information voters, but it’s not fooling anyone with a brain. The government doesn’t have any money of its own. The only money it has, it steals from us.
I pay enough in taxes to the thieves from both parties in Washington. Democrats don’t like people like me except when they donate to their campaigns. Democrats don’t want blacks to get good jobs and become part of the middle class because they’re afraid they’ll leave the Democrat Plantation. They want the government to be the savior of the poor, in his case, poor blacks.
Reparations is an attempt to solidify the black vote for Democrats. What it will do is alienate innocent victims who had nothing to do with slavery and keep millions of poor blacks in poverty. How long will reparations go on? Will it be a one-time payment?
My grandparents immigrated to the United States in the early part of the 20th century. They didn’t have anything to do with slavery. Neither they nor I, or anyone in our family, had anything to do with slavery or Jim Crow laws. I don’t owe descendants of former slaves anything and neither does anyone else living today.
As for the great migration of Eastern and Southern Europeans—Poles, Italians, Jews, Slavs, Slovaks—slavery was gone before they arrived. They had nothing to do with instituting Jim Crow. Why should they pay reparations? Asians and Hispanics were a tiny fraction of the U.S. population as late as 1960, when segregation was being outlawed everywhere, but amount to more than 75 million Americans today. Should they be made to pay for sins their ancestors did not commit?
Let’s not forget that African blacks sold other African blacks into slavery. Mary Grabar writes at FrontPage Magazine that “the ownership of black slaves by free blacks was a well-known fact. In 1830, by a conservative estimate (due to likely undercounting by the census), there were more than 3,500 slaveholders of African descent in the American South.” How many of their descendants are alive today? Should they be made to pay reparations?
Rangel used the race card to enrich himself while blacks generally have been turned into servants to a single political party. While government programs alone can’t be blamed for all the ills that are found in the black community, they certainly have contributed to them.
Black unemployment was at an all-time high when Democrats held the White House and the abortion rate among blacks is over 50 percent. “Data from the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene reveals that black women had more abortions than live births in 2012.” It’s not much different today. Then there’s gang violence and a high dropout rate from high school. Am I responsible for any of this? No.
These grinding statistics are the result of a long history of government interference in the lives of the poor. The Great Society Program of the 1960s was the major factor in crippling black families when they were advancing economically. “Since 1970, out-of-wedlock birth rates have soared. In 1965, 24 percent of black infants and 3.1 percent of white infants were born to single mothers. By 1990 the rates had risen to 64 percent for black infants, 18 percent for whites. Every year about one million more children are born into fatherless families.” What’s the cause? The subsidization of women with dependent children. The government pays women who have children outside of marriage and penalizes women and their dependent children when there is a husband.
If Democrats want to talk about slavery, they’ve been the biggest contributors to it. Some black politicians have noticed how the welfare state has negatively affected black families and have been criticized for saying it.
E.W. Jackson, who is black and was the Republican candidate for lieutenant governor in Virginia in 2013, said the following about modern-day government slavery:
I am a direct descendant of slaves. My grandfather was born … to a father and a mother who had been slaves. And by the way, their family was more intact than the black family is today.
I’m telling you that slavery did not destroy the black family, even though it certainly was an attack on the black family. It made it difficult.
What was the Democrat response? They circulated a video of Jackson’s speech claiming that “comparing things to slavery is insulting,” calling it “extreme rhetoric.”
So, a black Republican can’t reference slavery, but a liberal Democrat can.
Democrat political field slaves keep electing Democrats to Congress. Like Morgan Freeman’s character Red said in The Shawshank Redemption, they’ve been institutionalized by the lure of government security.
These walls are kind of funny. First you hate ’em, then you get used to ’em. Enough time passes, gets so you depend on them. That’s institutionalized. They send you here for life, that’s exactly what they take. The part that counts, anyways.
The welfare state has made poor people prisoners to the State.
