The Real Devil’s Advocate

Christopher_Hitchen_Devils_Advocate

We’ve talked before about Christopher Hitchens, his fuming against God, his fuming and raging against evangelical Christianity, particularly in relation to Jerry Falwell. Based on what he has said and the way he says it, it seems he is playing an act. Maybe he is an atheist, but it seems a lot of what he [...]

Don’t Tread on Me?

GadsdenFlag

Anne Rice’s recent announcement that she was “quitting Christianity” is yet another voice being added to the chorus of modern Christians who claim to have forsaken Christianity. Although there was nothing particularly novel or unique about Rice’s statement, hers has received an inordinate amount of press attention. Apparently now that every drop of crude has [...]

Contemporary Preaching: Biblical Preaching vs. Obfuscation

house-on-fire

Originally published in The Journal of Christian Reconstruction in the winter of 1975. Preaching has an important place in God’s purpose, and it is basic to the life and health of the church. If the church is faltering or straying, the preaching is clearly at fault. If the church is lukewarm, sterile, or dead, the [...]

Criminalizing Homosexuality in Uganda

American evangelicals are conflicted with involvement in American politics, but such doesn’t seem to be the case when a government bill was raised in Uganda that would criminalize homosexuality—even give it the penalty of capital punishment. Some liberally-minded Christians are against the legislation. Joel McDurmon, filling in for Gary in today’s show, explains how this [...]

The Evangelical Shift

A cursory reading of the Fundamentals, a series of papers published in 1917 to define the fundamentals of the Christian faith, do not deal with an evangelical evaluation of social reform. There is an article in the Fundamentals that criticizes reforms as modernists developed them, but nothing is offered to replace these social-gospelers.

Debating Misquoting Jesus

On Wednesday January 21, I had the privilege of attending the debate between Dr. James White and Dr. Bart D. Ehrman in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. The weather hardly seemed Floridian at fifty degrees with a breezy chill, so it was a good night to be inside anyway. The resolution on the floor: “Does the New Testament Misquote Jesus?” With two men with over fifty years of scholarship and about fifty books between them, the evening promised some mental stimulation at least, and did not disappoint.

What to do in an Obama World

When a young state senator from Illinois ascended the platform to give the keynote address at the 2004 Democratic National Convention, many considered him a rising star in the Democratic Party. But even his zaniest fans could not have anticipated that, in four short years, Barack Obama would have made the leap from state senator to United States Senator, and from United States Senator to the President of the United States.

Church Leadership Weakens the Drive to Protect and Preserve Marriage and Morality in Oregon

For two months now it has become increasingly clear that many, if not most, of the leading Evangelical Churches in Oregon have given up the battle to protect and preserve traditional marriage.

Which Way to Heaven?

Last night, ABC News aired a two-hour Barbara Walters special entitled “Heaven: Where is it and how do we get there?” Since I missed the first twenty minutes of it, and I only took notes on the last hour and a half, this will be something of a “preliminary” report. I will do some more research on this and write a fuller analysis next week.

Theocracy: An Inescapable Concept

Leftist pundits continue to raise fears about a Taliban-type Christian theocracy. The evangelical and moral vote scared the daylights out of a cabal of frenzied popping jays who have had a near monopoly on the flow of editorial comment over the last 20 years.
