Switzerland, the House of Elrond

The small nation of Switzerland taught the civilized world a lesson once again. In a time when Europe is disarming itself through political correctness and delivering its future in the hands of Islam, the small mountain nation told the most aggressive and savage of the world religions: “No to the minarets.” In a referendum, 57 percent of the voters and 22 out of 26 cantons voted in favor of a ban on building minarets to the mosques in the nation. As of the moment, Switzerland has only 4 minarets for its 350,000 Muslims, and the building of more minarets is declared unconstitutional and against the law. The Swiss people made that declaration in a remarkable display of peaceful exercise of popular democracy vote, against the will of their own government, against the disapproval of the other European nations, and against the wrath of the Muslim world.

Harold Camping Will go Mad on May 11, 2011

Harold Camping is at it again. He is predicting that an eschatological “end” will take place in 2011. The San Francisco Chronicle reports that “Camping, 88, has scrutinized the Bible for almost 70 years and says he has developed a mathematical system to interpret prophecies hidden within the Good Book. One night a few years ago, Camping, a civil engineer by trade, crunched the numbers and was stunned at what he’d found: The world will end May 21, 2011.”

The Left Wing and Right Wing Enlightenments

Brooke Allen claims in her article “Our Godless Constitution” that America “was founded not on Christian principles but on Enlightenment ones.” The Enlightenment is a term used to describe a period in eighteenth-century Europe and America when reason, coupled with advances in science, was declared to be the principal source of intellectual and moral authority. Something had to be argued rationally and demonstrated empirically to be true.

The Slumber in the Slough

The Bible is a book of contrasts. It is filled with stories about man’s stubborn propensity to settle for the good over the best, to take the easy road rather than the difficult, to walk in darkness instead of in the light. Even though we read time and time again in the Scriptures that God demands perfection, righteousness, and holiness of those who call Him "Lord," we seem to have convinced ourselves that being just a little bit better than everyone else is close enough. We readily admit that we will never reach the goal in this life, so we slow down, becoming lackadaisical and comfortable with our imperfection, taking comfort in the fact that "Jesus is our perfection."

The Demographics of Irrelevance

Not long ago my family and I attended a wedding. It was a wonderful Christian wedding, the bride is a daughter of a family in our church, the bridegroom is a committed Christian, young missionary in Eastern Europe. Both were homeschooled, both love the Lord, and the wedding ceremony was planned by them to be both a worship service to God and a witness to the unbelievers among those present. It was a delight to attend.

Eviscerating Evolution: Part 3

Patience and more patience are your watchwords since you know that he’s (she’s) the semi-naïve, hyper-indoctrinated victim of humanist-centered schemes. (And be more kind than necessary. Remember that everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.) You’ll do well to pause and listen often; something that will get easier with time and the confidence that comes with experience. Here’s the core issue: You say God exists; your humanized victim disagrees, and you both have reasons for your convictions. So where to start?

Eviscerating Evolution: Part 2

Presuppositional apologetics (PA) is a powerful tool and arguably the best one going for evangelizing (see Part 1), among others, two special groups. Hard-core unbelievers super-secularized, "sure hope he actually is a Christian," teenager. Polls show that thousands of young public-schooled church-goers are weak in the faith. For youth who seem solid, even one semester at Humanist State U is often all it takes to cut down their faith for years if not forever. But when a program (of what can be very enjoyable) parent-child teamwork is applied at home in the honing of PA skills, it nearly guarantees they won’t fall between the cracks at Secular U.

The Forgotten Key to Discipleship – Part 2

Education and Morality
Contrary to popular opinion, there is no such thing as amoral or value-neutral education. All education teaches and shapes morality.
