The Second Generation of Faithfulness

Prior to the Israelites’ conquest of the city of Jericho, a very significant event takes place that is often overlooked. Unlike most ancient literature, the Bible records details and events that can be seemingly unrelated to the overall narrative. For example, how many Christians have been sidelined in their attempts to read the entire Bible by the endless series of lists, genealogies, and rules found in Leviticus and Deuteronomy? It can make for tedious reading, but these details are by no means extraneous or superfluous. We learn in Luke 24:27 that everything in the Bible points to Christ, and this …Read More »

Aliens, Mosques and Curses

There are Mosques all over the U.S., including one already blocks from where the controversial “Ground Zero Mosque” is set to be built. Illegal immigration is getting out of control and Washington D.C seems to be fine with it. What is the Biblical approach to these issues? How should Christians respond?

Isidore of Seville and the Birth of Europe as the Regnum Christi

In 1997, Pope John Paul II declared that the Internet needed a patron saint. He chose St. Isidore of Seville. The reaction of the majority of Roman Catholics – and not only Roman Catholics – around the world was, “Huh? Who’s that?” Not much is known about Isidore of Seville. And yet, he is one of the most important minds in the birth of Europe, and of Christendom in general. We can safely say that Europe was born as a political, social, and legal entity based on the work of Isidore and on his understanding of the …Read More »

Are We Living in the Last Days?

Any time American Vision posts an article dealing with Bible prophecy, we get emails from Bible prophecy “experts” chastising us for our “ignorance.” One fellow wrote that since Revelation talks about earthquakes and we see earthquakes today that earthquakes must be a modern-day sign that the end is near. Here’s what he wrote:

“I don’t know who this guy [Gary DeMar] is and I don’t want to know but I am going to say this he does not know the bible cause it says in the Book of Revelation That Earth Quakes is one of the many signs of …Read More »

I Remember Mama (1948)

Worldview Observation: The family, not the State, is the basic government of society. “The nuclear family is the central building block of Western civilization.”

A few weeks ago I was in Los Angeles working on a film project with Darren Doane, director of Collision (2009). Mostly I was observing. At the end of the long day, we made our way back through LA rush-hour traffic and took in a great meal at a local restaurant. As we finished, a cell phone rang. It was the wife of one of the project’s participants. She wanted to know …Read More »

Jonathan_Edwards

America’s Greatest Mind

Jonathan Edwards (1703 — 1758) is best remembered for his masterful sermon, “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God.” In addition to his achievements as a pastor, Edwards was a father to eight daughters and three sons, missionary to the Housatonic Indians, revivalist, philosopher, and accomplished scientist. From a very early age, Jonathan was mesmerized by the beauty and order of God’s world. In fact, he was especially fond of studying spiders. So much so that his accurate observations have been preserved and are acknowledged in the scientific community today. Even more remarkable is that these observations were made …Read More »

He_Shall_Have_Dominion

The Power of Giving a Book

It all started with one book. When Bojidar’s missionary pastor left his Bulgarian town, all he left behind was a couple audio tapes and a copy of one book, Ken Gentry’s He Shall Have Dominion. Ken’s book is still, perhaps, the best one-stop exposition of the postmillennial, optimistic, dominion-oriented biblical worldview available. It has changed many lives, including Bojidar’s. After this, he wanted to hear more about optimism and biblical law.

So, after finishing the 550 pages, Bo (as we affectionately call him) flipped back to that all important page, the copyright page, where he was able to find …Read More »

Jericho

The Ongoing Conquest of Jericho

The story of the Battle of Jericho is one that is probably more familiar to children than most adults. Like many of the bold tales of God’s deliverance and judgment found in the Old Testament, many Christians aren’t quite sure what to do with city walls that fall down due to shouting and trumpet blowing. But I am convinced that a deeper understanding of the events of Jericho is the key to a deeper understanding of what the 21st century church has been called to be and do. Just as an older generation of grumblers in the wilderness had to …Read More »

Is There a Non-Christian Way to Fly a Plane?

Imagine you are talking to two other persons: a socialist and Murray Rothbard. And imagine the socialist makes the following statement:

“There isn’t a capitalist or a socialist way to help the poor. There is only one way: Give money to the poor to buy the goods they need.”

What would Murray Rothbard reply to this?

Those of us who learned a great deal from the Austrian School and Rothbard himself can easily figure what Rothbard would reply. He would say something like the following:

“You, my socialist friend, propose a solution that assumes the existence of …Read More »

Roger Ebert Gives Ground Zero Mosque “Thumbs Up”

Well known movie critic, Roger Ebert, has embraced the political correctness of the day. His article “Ten Things I Know About the Mosque”, accuses Americans who oppose the Mosque of betraying the First Amendment. Just because something is a religion, doesn’t automatically include it under the protection of the First Amendment.
