Bible Prophecy 101

In the wake of Harold Camping’s rapture predictions, a local television station had Gary DeMar and several other local Christian leaders on to talk about this important issue. In this edition of Vantage Point you can watch Gary’s interview on the show. In future episodes we’ll share the panel discussion portion of the program.

I have questions about Revelation Chapters 20-22. I have a friend who is a Preterist and believes that all prophecy has been fulfilled including all of Revelation - the final defeat of Satan, death and Hades, the Great White Throne judgment of mankind, the passing away of the old earth and old heaven to be replaced with New Heaven, New Earth and New Jerusalem. Is that what you are preaching? I believe in the second coming and that when Jesus comes anyone still alive who is in Christ will be immediately caught up to meet him in the clouds as 1 Thessalonians 4 states. I have never encountered the Preterist Doctrine before and I am finding it on that lacks any hope of Christ returning or a resurrection of the dead.

Great job, sir. I thought you used your time very effectively to get your point across. I wish I would have heard you in the 80/90s it could have saved me from a lot of worry about my decisions that I was making at that time and pressure from those who wouldn't accept it. Now it's different, because of your work and others on this site, I can make a much stronger reason for this position. I just read a short article that claims that an amateur astronomer has found a comet that is following the Earth, and will culminate on this October 15th coinciding with the Feast of Trumpets and the Second Coming. It never ends.

That was a great video, Gary. However, I am confused. The end of the age culminated in the destrution of Jerusalem in 70AD. You apply Matthew 24 and the whole book of Revelation to this period of history. However, you also believe the 'second coming' is a future event. So I have a question. If the first coming was Jesus' birth, ministry, death, resurrection and assension .. and the events that culminated int he end of the age was Jesus' 'coming in the clouds' .. was this not His 'second' coming? The end of the age judgement was Jesus' coming in the clouds. I am not a scholar. Is the word 'coming' here different from the 'coming' of the Anointed One prophesied in Daniel 9? After 'first' comes 'second'. Daniel predicts the coming of the Anointed One AND the destruction of Jerusalem. Two events at two different times. Therefore two comings. So if there is another ... it is the third. But noone ever speaks of the third and final coming. Only of the second. Please explain.

I enjoyed the video clip but only "partially"...

Actually, there are lots of comings (see Isa. 19:1; Micah 1:1-5; Rev. 2:5, 16; 3:11). These are neither the first coming nor the AD 70 coming.
