Well known movie critic, Roger Ebert, has embraced the political correctness of the day. His article “Ten Things I Know About the Mosque”, accuses Americans who oppose the Mosque of betraying the First Amendment. Just because something is a religion, doesn’t automatically include it under the protection of the First Amendment.

The First Amendment to the Constitution says, to paraphrase, "Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion." The purpose of the amendment was to keep our government from creating a "state religion". It has since been expanded to include "freedom of religion", meaning anyone can worship in any manner they wish. However, it make NO mention of a "freedom to build your place of worship anywhere you want". There are many mosques in NYC already, including one less than a mile from GZ at 172 Allen St., NYC. Also, the area near GZ is a business zone with very, very few residents.
I have read that many liberals feel that we should "bend over backwards" to show our "freedom of religion" to Muslims. Well, I believe Imam Rauf simply wants us to BEND OVER!
we do not object to a mosque to be built but the location we do object. this does not infreinge on any 1 st amendent rights of freedom of religion

I totally agree. Those of us who are opposed to the mosque it is because of the location nothing else. The far left is twisting this controversy around so that it makes us who oppose the mosque bigots. If the developers of the mosque had any respect and sensitivty for the victims of 9-11 and their families they should not go ahead with their plans.
I used to have respect for this man, but after reading this, it's all changed. I no longer have any respect for him. He's not the man I thought he was.

I used to like Roger Ebert when he was doing the PBS version of At the Movies. I never realized he was a far left kook or perhaps the ultra liberal progressive silliness is something new. Either way, he's just another guy who feels freedom of speech only extends to liberals. Talk is cheap. He can say any silly liberal kooky talk he wants. Not too many people are buying it or even listening.
When a Bible is placed in a vat of urine and covered in feces at a museum in NYC, they call it art. Not a peep out of Liberal's. When a human who decided to join the Catholic Church as a priest turns out to be a pedophile, people want him hunted down, charged, jailed and then they agree the Catholic Church should pay billions of dollars to make those who have to deal with the actions of a few human priest to feel better about themselves while Islam historically teaches that its founding Prophet Mohammed WAS a pedophile (53/56 yr old Mohammed + Aisha, his 6 to 9 year old baby girl bride) who considered his baby girl bride to be his favorite wife. This Prophet of Islam spent time in Heaven with Moses, Abraham, Jesus, etc. so I assume Islam considers Mohammed a step above Father Bob in Anytown, USA., the convicted pedophile. Since 9/11, more people have been murdered by Muslim's than all of the people murdered during
the entire 'Spanish Inquisition' which lasted close to 400 years. The GZ Mosque/Community Center is there for one reason. It will represent the first major strike by Islam on the 'Great Satan', America.
This is why the GZ developer stated that people will come from all over the world to visit it. Do you see a lot of Christian men traveling to your local YMCA from half way around the world for a visit?

Every religion on the planet is told to be tolerant of Islam while Islam tolerates no other religion once it comes to power. All one has to do is read the history of Islam to verify that Islam subject's all other religion's to submission under its rule. Muslims should allow Christians and Jews to build religious centers at 'Makkah' to further religious understanding between our faiths. Don't you think that's an excellent idea? A Catholic Cathedral and Synagogue with-in two blocks of Islam's 'Great Mosque'. Now that would be a 'Bridge Builder', huh?
Dear Bill, That is totally true. We are expected to tolerate Islam, while Islam is not allowed to tolerate non-Muslim religions. But not every form of Islam is given to violence. But potentially, any form of Islam can give in to hate. This is true of anyone. Anything in Christians that causes hate is not true Christianity, but a distortion, misrepresentation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Take care.
I agree with you, Scott. My country and my American brother's and sister's (like you) have welcomed more people of all religion's, races, and culture's, more so than any other country on the planet, to our Judeo/Christian table for hundred's of years, yet we are still called Bigot's, Racist, Fascists, etc.
In only 233 years we have taken the black man from the bottom hold of a slave ship to the White House but most whites in America are still considered to be racist even though Mr. O'Bama couldn't have been elected without the white vote. My points are made with respect to your religion.
Ms. Khan now states that American's hate Islam.
Doesn't Ms. Khan mean Catholics who are hated and denigrated everyday because of a few
humans who became priest who were/are pedophiles? Those priest are human's, not prophets of 'GOD'!
Islam teaches as its history that its founding Prophet Mohammed was a pedophile who at the age of 53 to 56 married a 6 year old baby girl named Aisha and consummated the marriage when this baby girl was 9. This Prophet of Islam flew to Jerusalem during his 'Night Journey' and then climbed a 'Golden Ladder' to Heaven and met with Jesus, the 'Son of GOD', Abraham, Moses, etc. and they told him he was the final Prophet to deliver the word of 'GOD'!
