Liberal Delusions, Case Number 002

Within weeks (plus or minus I can’t remember) of Obama’s inauguration American Vision received a brand-new book entitled Change for America: A Progressive Blueprint for the 44th President. We receive review copies of books all the time, but they usually come from Christian or conservative publishers, and this one sure did not. The behemoth 700-page collaboration of dozens of liberal scholars lays out the whole liberal agenda for every area of (and calls for many expansions to) government power.

I was not shocked at the size or the perspectives, but I was shocked when I immediately went to the website of the group of scholars, The New Democracy Project. The “About” page said, “the New Democracy Project recognizes that the political left’s routine responses to the traditional conservative arguments are no longer sufficient. A new approach must be adopted that uses varied media to communicate a progressive message.…” Ironically, at the time of writing this post (11:00am, Nov. 3, 2009), the website I printed this from months ago will no longer pull up. I cannot find it using search engines, either. The book itself, however, is available on Google books here. Caution: don’t read this one while smoking in bed.

Nevertheless, the blindness to keep pushing radical liberalism despite their own admission to the insufficiency of their arguments speaks volumes about the mindset of the liberal whacko. They are never wrong. They are here to save us, and even if the whole nation disagrees with them it must be propagandized and legislated against until it submits. These people are out of touch.

If you think I’m joking about this, listen to the arguments from just one chapter on health care. The book laments that government does not yet have total control over health statistics and information. The poor, helpless academics and researchers (like the ones who wrote this book) are shut out without access to vital private information about your life: “Currently, certain government-collected data are kept from researchers’ responsible use, such as Medicare data on physician and drug utilization. In addition, data use agreements limit how the data may be analyzed and published, with no clear grounds for denial of access.”[1] Imagine that! Private data actually being kept private by the government! What a shock that must be to these liberals who see things like “freedom” and “privacy” as mere useful labels under which to steal your freedom and privacy.

Said liberals offer a modest proposal: “The secretary [of HHS] could clarify data access and release policies to ensure necessary information sharing while protecting privacy [yeah, right]. This could include the protected collection of racial and ethnic information to reduce health disparities.” Note how “racial and ethnic” disparities slid their way into a discussion about health information data collecting. These liberals cannot keep other social issues from crossing into their work on health care—because the two are inseparably connected. Control of health and health information means control of society.

As part of their overall socialistic mindset, these progressives wish to control everyone’s personal information, consolidate health care under government control, and use this as a base to push socialistic control into every other area of life. Worse yet, these leftist whackos think they deserve to be the ones in control of the system, which means in control of your life.

Just listen as the writer proceeds:

Options for creating a new center or agency for comparative effectiveness research, which could assess the relative merits of therapies and research critical to improving affordability… could be quickly adopted. Additionally, the National Center for Health Statistics could be moved into the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality to make it a single source for health services research.…

The new secretary of HHS should make prevention a priority. A new council, center, or agency could be created to signal its importance and concentrate policymaking authority.… It would become the main source of information on prevention, create a list of top concerns and goals, develop a cross-department budget, and issue a blueprint for administrative and legislative actions to advance the priorities.[2]

And just to make sure you know they intend to advance the reach of their power into more than just healthcare, they tell us they’re aiming for socialism—wealth redistribution—in general, across the board:

Given the broad social determinants of health, the HHS secretary could also urge a cross-department effort to develop a long-run agenda to reduce income inequality—a contributor to racial health disparities.[3]

For these delusional liberals, the world will not be whole until they have control of every inch of it, have molded it into their image, and can take credit for do so. These people are out of touch, and yet believe they are the world’s messiahs, your messiah, and you should pay them greatly for the privilege. Obama strongly believes in Ms. Lambrew’s policy proposals for HHS above. So he, by executive order, created HHS’s Office of Health Reform and appointed Ms. Lambrew as the Director—the reward for years of faithful laboring as a leftist whacko in academia.

And yet despite all of the positioning, confiscating, scheming, and power-grabbing, these progressive whackos pretend they are the ones who are being oppressed. They always find it helpful, when pushing their tyranny, to play victim. I think there’s a secret undergraduate class on self-victimology mandatory for aspiring liberals; or maybe they’re just born with the instinct. Heck, maybe that’s what leads them to develop that sneaking, conniving, thieving, whining, power-hungry cowardice that seems to characterize liberal politicians, journalists, and academics. However it arrives, here’s how the NDP motivated itself on its website:

NDP is uniquely positioned to cost-effectively counter the conservative consensus now dominating the public conversation.…

[T]he New Democracy Project understands the importance of translating complex issues into appealing understandable language.…

Moreover, the New Democracy Project recognizes that the political left’s routine responses to the traditional conservative arguments are no longer sufficient. A new approach must be adopted that uses varied media to communicate a progressive message.… [A] multi-tiered approach is necessary to overcome the current conservative hegemony in media and government.

Notice the positioning as oppressed underdogs: the conservatives “dominate the conversation” and have a conservative “hegemony in media.” What?!? Since when? Because Fox dominates the cable news channels, often gathering more viewers than the others put together (see the ratings here)? And yet the traditional network news programs (ABC, CBS, NBC) beat Fox five to seven times over, each. Not to mention the liberal hegemony over the schools and universities—battering liberalism into hundreds of millions of young minds daily for decades, even centuries in some cases. Not to mention activist groups, liberal think tanks, the billion-dollar charitable trusts of Carnegie, Pew, Rockefeller, etc., the powerful unions like SEIU taxing their members and funding leftist politics and lobbies. Who’s dominating the conversation? Who’s got the hegemony? Conservatives? Spare me.

This kind of victim-playing goes to show the pitiful insecurity of the liberal whackos: despite all of their dominance of media and education for countless years, let one articulate conservative group get an audience of a mere one million viewers, and the whackos are shaking in their too-light loafers.

For all of their degrees of education and airs of enlightenment, these whackos can’t understand that the reason there’s a “conservative consensus” is because Americans don’t want socialism. They don’t want the old leftist answers that the website conceded are insufficient anyway. But the leftists can’t accept this reality: they’re messiahs after all, and messiahs are infallible. They can’t be wrong about their agenda! So they blame their failure on the medium and not the message. Notice the logic of their statement of purpose: a conservative consensus now dominates the public conversation, the left’s routine responses are insufficient, therefore, we must change the delivery of the left’s responses. They need to repackage their insufficient answers in “appealing language” and put it out there using “varied media.” That’s it! So we have things like calculated iconography and the first branding of the presidency in American history.

Compare this nonsense to the work of the real Messiah. Jesus knows every bit of health and every other information about us, has all power to force anyone to do anything He wishes, and yet came and bore our burdens on His own back, and submitted himself to torture and death so that we could be free—free from sin and every other tyranny, and free to live out the same willing, voluntary example ourselves. These liberal whackos—believing themselves to be messiahs here to save us from ourselves—wish to impose agencies and databases so they can know everything about us, force us to do what they wish, and place huge burdens of debt, taxation, and submission to armies of bureaucrats upon our backs. Jesus freed us to live our own lives under His grace; these whackos wish to enforce material equality and single-file line-ups for health care ultimately at gun-point. Choose your Messiah.

These whackos are out of touch: out of touch with reality, logic, reason, religion, and the American people.

If you see news articles or websites on the fringe of liberal whacko-dom, send them to joel –at- Americanvision.org to help him with this fledgling series, “Liberal Delusions.”
