“Sleeping Giant” Katy Abram stood up for freedom as she confronted Sen. Arlen Specter yesterday in Lebanon, PA. Her expressed concern over government interference in health care gained support from nearly the whole audience. Even more powerful than her stand, however, is her story.
Hannity immediately had Katy on for an interview that evening
She told how she has since received a threatening phone call in which some nameless coward called her a racist. (This testifies to the character and intellect of the average leftist RObamabot—race was nowhere mentioned and had nothing to do with the issue, even tangentially.) Then Hannity asked Katy to talk about how she came to be a conservative. The story is priceless:
She went to college to be in the leftist media. She believed in abortion and the rest of the liberal platform. She voted for Bill Clinton—both terms. She graduated and got a job as a photojournalist. Then… something drastic happened:
She got her first government-garnished paycheck.
She noticed the huge chunk taken out by the government(s): Federal withholding (income tax), Social Security employee (the employer pays a match to this for each employee—this match doesn’t appear on the check), Medicare employee (employer matches again), plus State withholding for income tax, plus…
Realizing that huge chunk of her money robbed before she even got it, she abandoned the utopian dream of leftist politics—the dream where everything is “free,” like “free” education, “free” retirement, and yes, “free” healthcare. She did what any honest, hardworking, decent person with any semblance of integrity would do: she became a conservative.
She realized the truth: it’s not so great when you actually earn your own money and then some government agency steals a fourth of it for their purposes. You begin to lose any incentive to work harder. Productivity comes where incentive exists, and there’s not much incentive to work for what you know will be stolen. This type of social system destroys morale and productivity. It puts even giants to sleep.
The Obamacare attack on America is a new 9-11. Katy’s right: it has awakened that sleeping giant.
