The black community has been on a downhill slope morally since being introduced to welfare in the 1960s. The dependency on government handouts has crippled the family, producing doubts that it can recover at all. Gary discusses this issue and possible ways to solve it on today’s show.

Gary has lived in the Atlanta area since 1979 with his wife, Carol. They have two married sons and are enjoying being grandparents to their grandsons, Calvin and Paul. Gary and Carol are members of Midway Presbyterian Church (PCA).

I recenly rented the movie "American Gangster" (Denzel Washington, Russell Crowe). It shows how the American Black, in this case in the NY/NJ area, became dependent upon illicit narcotics. While these drugs were originally distributed by the Italian Mafia, of course with the help of corrupt law enforcement officials, it shows how one man almost monopolized the drug trade in that area (a black man named Frank Lucas, played by Washington).
This movie, based on a true story (and it's definitely not Mary Poppins "G" rated), more importantly shows how the Black American family was affected by immoral behavior that goes against the laws of God and the consequences that followed: the dissolution of one of the most important American institutions, the nuclear familly.
We're GOING to see a cultural divide? Only because "we" hasn't been looking. Wake up and smell the coffee.
Last week I was in a downtown Atlanta slum assisting my pastor.
It amazed me how these folks could have 150.00 shoes and 50.00 basketball jerzeys, designer clothes, and Blackberrys, yet still live in absolute poverty.
The answer is the Gospel of the Bible, not the Gospel of government dependency.

I'm a black woman and I believe this is PRECISELY the reason our TAXES ARE SO HIGH. but this isn't just a black problem; were just further downhill; black women not only have a high illegitimacy rate, we have 1/3 of all abortions AND the highest HIV+ outside of the homosexual community. This is mostly in the 'inner city' areas though..only a move of GOD could ever change this [I wanted to vote for Barack Obama but between Saul Alinsky and Rev. Aint Wright , I couldnt]
I love Gary DeMar, and I love American Vision to death, but I have a sincere disagreement over the implication of this episode.
The premise is that black Americans are in an undesirable economic and social situation because of left-leaning policies that make no economic sense and prove disastrous to the average black family.
This is in stark contrast to Reformed theology. The Westminster Shorter Catechism sums up a relevant doctrine thus:
Q20: Did God leave all mankind to perish in the estate of sin and misery?
A: God having, out of His mere good pleasure, from all eternity, elected some to everlasting life, did enter into a covenant of grace, to deliver them out of the estate of sin and misery, and to bring them into an estate of salvation by a Redeemer.
Black Americans aren't suffering because of a lack of proper economic policy. They are suffering because they, as a people, haven't totally embraced Christ and made Him the center of their culture and society. My black friends realize this is the true problem.
To blame it on "the man" and say: "it's the man's fault you are the way you are" is an insult to Christian blacks.
Granted, 9 out of 10 black voted for the socialist Barack Obama (some of them even knew his platform); but the American Black wasn't always liberal.
